HECHA DE ORO
December 15-20, 2025
Trinity Street Playhouse Theater
This multidisciplinary production follows the story of Oshun — the Yoruba deity of fertility, beauty, and love. Through Afro-Latin dance and music, Hecha de Oro brings Oshun’s world to life, revealing the power, passion, and generosity of a goddess often dismissed for her soft, feminine nature yet revered as one of the most resilient Orishas of the Yoruba pantheon.

Rooted in Afro-Latin futurism, this performance merges traditional folklore with contemporary storytelling — a vibrant fusion of salsa, flamenco, Afro-Cuban folk, Cuban modern, hip-hop, live percussion, rap, spoken word, and non-binary partner dance. Together, they create a living ritual of resilience and rebirth, guiding audiences through courage and sacrifice toward self-love, acceptance, and freedom.
WHY THIS ART MATTERS
This year, major national arts funding cuts have left us without support. Your contribution helps keep inclusive performance art alive.

Our school’s mission is to honor and celebrate inclusivity, authenticity, and innovation through the joyous passion and magic of Afro-Latin dance, music, and culture.

We honor our African legacy within Latin dance heritage, often left out of mainstream narratives, by training directly in countries of origin and recognizing Afro-folklore techniques as equally valuable as Eurocentric dance forms within Latinx heritage.

We celebrate inclusivity and authenticity by creating performances that challenge the status quo, such as non-gendered partner dancing and switching lead and follow within a single sequence. We encourage unique self-expression in costuming, allowing performers to choose their preferred gender representation, and we choreograph pieces that elevate and spotlight everyone.

By honoring Afro-folklore technique and history while pushing the boundaries of inclusivity, we fuse our past and future in imaginative ways, creating seamless transitions between them and re-envisioning a world where the marginalized reclaim their space and power, blending diverse worlds to tell one story.

Help reach our goal of keeping inclusive and culturally relevant art alive!
